The U.S spent trillions of dollars and courted Iraqi government to be their good allies but they fail from the Bush administration to the Obama administration. Many studies found that the US lost many billions of dollars for Iraq rebuilding after the invasion. Many lives were lost and many thousands were injured. US paid a very heavy price for Iraqi Freedom but the Iraqi government authorities or the majority of the Iraqi people do not still love or like the US. The US needs to understand that Iraq doesn't love US. Instead the Iraqi government and the majority of the Iraqi people are leaning toward the Iran because they have the same religious belief.
Moreover, the Iranian influences in Iraq is so huge today. Iran is virtually supporting Iraqi government by weapons, foods, materials and funds. The Shiite militias in Iraq, the so-called Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) are growing in numbers and strength like special army. There are 60,000-100,000 Shiite militias in Iraq, which is very strong. Iran sponsors PMF by weapons, funds, training and persons. The PMF is the strongest force in Iraq after Iraqi army itself. They are allies of Iraqi forces, Iranian forces and Hezbollah Shiite militias in Lebanon. Iraqi forces could not win them. PMF are actually the puppet of Iranian forces. The presence and existence of PMF in Iraq shows that Iraq and Iran are indivisible allies. It is clear that Iraq does love Iran much more than US or the West.
It is clear now that the presence of PMF militias is a grave danger for the Iraqi government and Kurdistan people in the North. It is really a concern and a great threat for Sunni Muslims in Iraq. PMF are the greatest forces who drove the Perhmerga forces from the oil rich city of Kirkuk last month. The US and UK are well aware of the PMF's occupation of Kirkuk because the American army can't stop the influence of PMF in Iraq now. Therefore, Iran is gradually swallowing Iraq. Iraq Vice-President sees that kind of PMF influence in Iraq and saying that "PMF are a threat of Iraq." But Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadhi is also very closed friend of Iran government. He is supporter of PMF.
Now, it is clear that US will never understand the mindset of Iraqi government and its people. US is still helping Iraqi government by weapons, armor vehicles, tanks, fighter jets, ammunition, material and army and money. US has helped Iraqi government fighting against the most evil terrorists ISIS for over three years. US helps made the Iraqi government to win the war against the ISIS. Currently there are over 5,000 troops in Iraq, who even helped to eliminate the ISIS from Iraq.
But Iraqi government and their people still do not like US instead they love Iranian Shiite government and the Iranian people more because the majority of the Iraqi people and Iranian people are Shiites. It is a natural thing. It show that Iraq will love Iran more than America. Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi and Iranian President Hasan Rouhani stand together and bitterly opposed Pre. Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel. So, they both did not like USA at all.
Therefore, the leaders of US must understand and accept the fact that Iraq will never love USA but only their money and military equipment. No one can predict that USA would be the enemy of Iraq like the time of Saddam Hussein when the country is stable because Iraq will lean toward Iran because of the same religious belief and the same cultural value.
Therefore, USA needs a real lover or partner in the Middle East around Iraq and Iran, and the USA does need to support the Independence Movement of Kurdistan people who are trying to get independence from Iraq. If Kurdistan become an independent country it will benefit both America and Europe. Kurdistan government needs US' support to get independence from Iraq. If US support Kurdistan it will benefit all of the western powers for many more years to come.
